Solidworks World 2018 – Day 1 Part 2

As always, there are some pretty amazing pieces of tech at Solidworks World. I stopped by the Contour stand and they told me about their RollerMouse.  Now, when I started CAD all those years ago, every mouse had a roller-ball in them, so I had visions of some retro-tech.

I couldn’t have been further from the truth! Basically, the RollerMouse is based around a roller-bar housed in an aluminium body. 7 sensors. located inside the rolle-bar track the cursor position and are constantly making adjustments to ensure accuracy.  Remarkably, it’s a very intuitive device to use!  If you don’t believe me, call over to their stand and take a look!

I’ve highlighted the RollerMouse… Try it, you will not believe how easy it is to use!

Everyone at #SWW18 loves tech.

SG Robotics was founded by Professor Kyoungchul Kong in 2017. It’s aim is to produce wearable robotics for physically disabled and elderly people.  They were demonstrating their AngleLegs system, a wearable robot to help people will impaired walking to walk again. It’s a very impressive piece of technology.

Helping people to walk again… It’s amazing what you can do with Solidworks.

OK, by now it’s no secret that I’m Irish, so when I’m walking through #SWW18 and I see a big sign saying CIARA, I automatically thing they’re an Irish company (Ciara is the feminine version of the name Ciarán, meaning dar or Black in Gaelic).

It turns out that they are not Irish and they don’t pronounce it as we do back home, they pronounce it see air ah. Anyway, we got talking and it turns out they make some pretty impressive CAD Workstations.  Cheap too… Only $8000.00 for the model on display!

It’s pronounced keer ra, but I’ll let it slide this time!

And that’s pretty much it for today.  Don’t forget tomorrow there is another live DraftSight session over in Room 409A at 10:30am called What’s New in DraftSight 2018  We will see you there!  Don’t forget to keep tweeting and using the hashtag #SWW18

The first time I used CAD, it was on a DOS PC with an 8088 processor, 640K of memory and a Hercules Mono Graphics Card... That, well that was a long long time ago. I switched to DraftSight the day it was released and haven't looked back!
