DraftSight – Tailoring with Text
Visit DraftSight.com to explore DraftSight 2019 and learn how you can experience the freedom to do more with a better 2D drafting and 3D design experience.
Following my last couple blogs regarding the CCS icon for orientation and the Trim tool for clarity, I also wanted to mention using text for organization. Throughout my quest to learn DraftSight, one of the biggest game changers in my drawing journey has been adding labels to my work. With distinct identifiers, anyone reading my architectural drafts can have a clear understanding of the vision I’m trying to convey. In this sense, text in DraftSight aids in filling the gaps between my mental image and my CAD drawing, by accurately portraying each element of my design.
DraftSight offers three options of text located in its customizable ribbon. The first is called Note, which allows for you to click anywhere in the drawing window and make a text box. This is especially helpful when adding anecdotes about your draft, which may not pertain to a particular entity.
The second text option is called Simple Note, and I would describe it as a quicker version of Note. Rather than making a text box, just click anywhere in the drawing window, select the height and angle of your text, and type. I like this option in particular for when I want my text to be at a certain angle, because it’s just one click away.
The last text feature is called Curved Text, which allows for effortless labeling along an arc. Simply click the arc you’d like your text to define, and type – it’s as easy as that, but makes a world of a difference.
I’ve found that incorporating text in DraftSight takes the guesswork out of my CAD drawings and adds an element of refinement that I can’t achieve otherwise. So, I hope this post encourages you to experiment with text, and I hope it makes as big of an impact on your work as it did for mine.
