DraftSight: Review with Layer Preview!

Visit DraftSight.com to explore DraftSight 2019 and learn how you can experience the freedom to do more with a better 2D drafting and 3D design experience.

Once again, I found myself browsing the DraftSight YouTube channel and discovered their Tips and Tricks playlist. Each video includes an easy to follow tutorial that gives step-by-step instructions on how to operate a DraftSight feature.

I decided to check out the video on Layer Preview, because I recently covered how to insert and edit Layers in a previous post.

Before watching, I would use the drop-down menu in the Layers section of the Home tab in the ribbon if I wanted to hide layers for editing purposes. That said, in more intricate drawings it wasn’t always easy to keep track of which layer contained which entities.

This is where Layer Preview comes in – it allows you to click through your layers one by one, displaying the contents of each layer separately in the drawing window.

It’s located to the right of the Layers Manager, and when selected, opens a directory window listing each tier of your design. As layers are highlighted, they appear in your drawing display. Likewise, you can select as many or as little as you want, in any combination.

DraftSight even allows you to Preview your new drawing window to make sure you’re happy with your changes before exiting the feature.

Keep in mind that in order for you to make lasting changes after exiting Layer Preview, the Restore Layers state when exit option must be unchecked.

I hope this post encourages you to preview your layers while editing and drawing your DraftSight designs!
