DraftSight: Color and Style your lines

While I was searching the ribbon for more DraftSight shortcuts, I found myself in the Properties section of the Home tab in the ribbon. I ended up discovering a few icons I hadn’t experimented with before, including the Color and LineStyle features.

When I noticed their drop-down menus in the past, I assumed that they only altered line style and color “ByLayer.” But in reality, these icons can quickly change the appearance of your lines as you draw, regardless of their residing layer – making them handy time saving tools.

By selecting the paint bucket icon in the ribbon, a line color window appears. The window holds two tabs, a Standard Colors option and a Custom Color option.

In the Standard tab, you can select any preset color icon, or match your line color to your layer or block. Alternatively, the Custom tab allows you to choose a color from a gradient scale, granting you the most freedom to personalize your shade. Once you’ve decided on a color, press OK, and it’ll be activated in the display window the next time you draw.

Located underneath the Color icon is the LineStyle feature. Similar to Color, when LineStyle is selected, an options window pops up allowing you to make changes to your active lines.

DraftSight’s default lines are set to Solid line, but if you press the Load… icon, a list of available line styles will appear, including Dashed, Zig zag, Dotted, and many more. There are even more practical line options that reference obstacles or other crucial components in your designs, like Fence or Gas line.

Once you’ve selected your preferred line from the Load LineStyles menu, press OK, and then reselect your chosen line in the Line Style window. Lastly, press the Activate button to turn on your new style, click OK, and voila!
