DraftSight: Weight and Paint your lines

Visit DraftSight.com to explore DraftSight 2019 and learn how you can experience the freedom to do more with a better 2D drafting and 3D design experience.

Furthering last post on the Properties section of the Home tab in the ribbon, today’s blog will be covering two more of its time saving icons. More specifically, I’ll be focusing on the LineWeight and Properties Painter features.

Starting with LineWeight, it’s similar to Color and LineStyle (discussed last post), in that it alters the thickness of the active lines in your drawings. Likewise, it opens a drafting options window when selected, which contains drop-down menus for selecting your preferred Line and default weights. As always, press OK when you’re satisfied with your chosen weights, and voila!

Side note: in order to make line thickness changes visible in your drawing window, you have to check the Display weight in graphics area box, located under the LineWeight drop-down menus.

Lastly, the Properties painter does exactly what its name suggests – it copies the properties of one entity and pastes them onto another. This is especially convenient for quickly coordinating objects in your designs that you’ve already drawn.

By simply selecting the icon in the ribbon, DraftSight will prompt you to specify your entity source (or the entity with the properties you want to duplicate). Then you’ll select your destination entity, and you’re good to go!

Keep in mind that you can select as many destination entities as you want – just press enter when you’re done painting properties to exit the command.

I hope this post encourages you to include more Properties section icons in your daily drafting!
