DraftSight: Set Limits with Drawing Bounds
Visit DraftSight.com to explore DraftSight 2019 and learn how you can experience the freedom to do more with a better 2D drafting and 3D design experience.
The DraftSight graphics display allows for a limitless workspace where you can spread out and experiment with your designs. However, as my drawings have gotten more advanced, I’ve noticed that my lack of borders can sometimes cause issues or confusion for those reading and printing my finished work.
So, as always, I did some feature searching and came across the Drawing Bounds command. When activated, this function will only allow you to draw within your preferred coordinate boundaries.
By simply typing DRAWINGBOUNDS into the command window, DraftSight will prompt you to first specify your boundary’s lower left corner.
You can do this by pressing enter to accept the default coordinate, typing an (x, y) value into the command window, or clicking on a point directly in your drawing. Then, following the same procedure, you’ll select your upper right corner bound.
Lastly, press enter to repeat DRAWINGBOUNDS and make sure that the command is activated by typing and entering ON into the command window – this step will ensure that DraftSight won’t allow you to draw outside of your set bounds.
Keep in mind that you can revise your boundaries at any time without affecting your drawing’s geometry.
Now that your boundaries are created, you can turn on your grid to see your available workspace, and select Zoom Bounds for optimal visibility in the drawing window.
Side note: the Zoom Bounds feature is located under the Zoom Window icon’s drop-down menu in the Navigate section of the View tab in the ribbon.
I hope this post encourages you to install boundaries in your DraftSight designs!
