DraftSight: Edit your References
Visit DraftSight.com to explore DraftSight 2019 and learn how you can experience the freedom to do more with a better 2D drafting and 3D design experience.
Now that we’ve covered how to insert and clip Xrefs, today’s post will be detailing how to edit their files after insertion.
As a recap, References are especially helpful when working on group projects or multiple related drawings, because you can use them to view all of your relevant drafts in one display window – without actually having to include them in your current drawing file.
Likewise, References can always be reloaded by selecting the Reload All icon in the Reference Properties Palette. This is especially convenient when working on projects with multiple drafters, because References will always regenerate to their latest saved file version – keeping everyone informed on each other’s work.
That said, the source drawing file of your References can also be updated from your current graphics display.
Just right click and press Edit Reference to be prompted with an Edit Component window. Here, you can select your whole drawing to revise or a single component of your draft. You can even choose to Zoom your Reference to Bounds and preview your editing display in the upper right corner of the window.
As always, when you’re satisfied with your entered information, press OK, and you’ll be able to edit your Reference as if it were a regular entity in your drawing window.
Finally, when you’ve made all your necessary revisions – right click, and select Close Component.
This will open a Component save options window, where you’ll specify whether or not you want to save your changes to your Reference’s original file. If you press Save, the next time you open your Reference drawing’s file in a new sheet, your saved changes will be preserved.
So, I hope this blog encourages you to edit your References in DraftSight!
