Aliases in DraftSight
Visit DraftSight.com to explore DraftSight 2019 and learn how you can experience the freedom to do more with a better 2D drafting and 3D design experience.
Today’s blog will be covering how to customize your Aliases in DraftSight. In doing so, you can activate your drawing features by typing personalized commands into the command line – increasing efficiency and productivity while drafting.
Taking it back to the basics – Aliases are abbreviations of feature names in DraftSight, which initiate their designated functions when entered into the command window. Knowing the Aliases of your commonly used commands can be a huge time saver, because it keeps you from having to search the ribbon for their individual icons every time you need them.
That said, many of the default Alias names are on the longer side – making them harder to remember and more time consuming to type out. Thankfully, DraftSight makes it super easy to change and edit them –
Just locate and select the Options… icon in the Customization section of the Manage tab in the ribbon. Then, click on User Preferences and specify Aliases to open a table listing all of your Commands and their accompanying Aliases.
Here, you can double click on a Command’s Alias and change it to whatever you’d like. Then, press Apply and OK – and your new Alias will be installed!
Alternatively, if you want to create a new Alias for a command, but keep its default Alias intact, just press the New icon in the upper right corner of the window. This instantly opens a blank line in the Alias table for you to fill out. Then, as always, press Apply and OK.
Keep in mind that if you accidentally insert the same Alias for two separate commands, that Alias will not activate either command until one is changed.
