DraftSight: Import and Export your Alias Commands

Visit DraftSight.com to explore DraftSight 2019 and learn how you can experience the freedom to do more with a better 2D drafting and 3D design experience.

Following last post on customizing Aliases in DraftSight, today’s blog will be covering how to export and import your personalized lists of Aliases.

As a recap, Aliases are abbreviations of DraftSight feature names, which you can enter into the command line at any time to activate their designated functions. Using Aliases can be a huge time saver, because they keep you from having to search the ribbon every time you want to initiate your commonly used icons.

Likewise, you can edit your Aliases by selecting the Options… icon in the Customization section of the Manage Tab in the ribbon. From there, just press User Preferences, and specify Aliases to view a table listing all of your Commands and their accompanying Alias names.

Once you’ve tailored your catalog of Aliases to your liking, you can create a standard for anyone to install into their own workspace at any time – by exporting your list of Aliases to a file.

Simply, click on the Export… icon on the right-hand side of your Options window and give your Alias file a name. Then, press Save, and voila! You can share your Alias file with anyone to import into their own DraftSight application.

That said, importing Aliases is just as easy as exporting them – just click on the Import… icon, select your Alias file, and press OK!

So, I hope this post encourages you to export and import Alias files!
