DraftSight: Smart Calculator

Visit DraftSight.com to explore DraftSight 2019 and learn how you can experience the freedom to do more with a better 2D drafting and 3D design experience.

Today’s blog will be covering Smart Calculator in DraftSight, which I recently discovered in the Utilities section of the Manage tab in the ribbon. I’ve found this feature to be extremely useful when computing unit conversions or doing any kind of arithmetic while designing.

After selecting the icon, a calculator window instantly appears, with all the characteristics of a typical hand-held machine. It even has all of the scientific functions built in, so you can solve virtually any problem at hand.

It’s operated exactly how you would expect it to – by typing a calculation into the expression line and pressing the equals sign.

That said, if you select the Copy icon, you can copy any equation or answer from your expression line, and paste it wherever you please. I often paste my calculations into Notes for labeling purposes or into my command line for coordinate specifications.

Likewise, your calculation history is also automatically saved, so you can refer back to your previous computations at any time. Alternatively, you can press the CR icon to clear a selected row from your history, or the CH icon to clear your entire calculations history.

Last but not least – the Smart Calculator feature has built in unit conversions, which allow you to convert Lengths, Areas, Volumes, and Angle measurements between Imperial and Metric units, in a matter of clicks.

So, I hope this post encourages you to use Smart Calculator in DraftSight!
