Top DraftSight Enhancements

I’m excited to announce and share with you what’s new and what’s coming in DraftSight 2025. From the ability to import STEP files from a local disk to enhanced table functionality with support for auto-filling cells and table breaks, and the ability to customize your bill of materials (BOM), you’ll certainly benefit from these and many more enhancements.

These enhancements apply to DraftSight solutions on the desktop and the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform. For those of you who aren’t aware we offer 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight, allowing you to connect your data to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and take advantage of collaboration and data management capabilities. Plus, when you have 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight you can take advantage of the latest enhancements as they become available throughout the year in functional deliveries.

The following three enhancements are available only in 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Premium and Mechanical and DraftSight Premium and Mechanical.

Coming in DraftSight 2025

1. Import Step Files – improve your workflow efficiency with 3D model STEP support.

You can now import step files from your local disk and use them in your drawings.

2. Table Enhancements – save time and ensure consistency with customized tables.

Use the table command to automatically enter data in the adjacent cells of a table.

This feature is useful where data follows a logical or repetitive order, such as filling in dates, sequential numbers, days of the week, months, etc. Auto-fill is an efficient tool to help you handle large data sets and ensure consistency.

To access the Table command you can do one of the following:

  • On the ribbon, click Annotate > Table > Insert.
  • On the menu, click Draw > Table.
  • Enter TABLE in the command window.

 3. Export DWG to DGN Files – improve collaboration with DGN export.

Streamline design and collaboration for civil engineering, architecture and industrial plant design with the ability to export DGN files from DraftSight.

Easily edit and exchange files without changing the file format.

4. Dynamic Blocks Library – create new drawings from ready-to-use blocks.

The tool palettes include more than 400 dynamic blocks.

Instead of creating new blocks to adapt or update a design, you can adjust the size, shape, and configuration of the dynamic blocks. This can simplify the drawing process and reduce repetitive tasks.

The dynamic blocks include symbols for architecture, interior design, HVAC, electricity, plumbing, civil engineering, and urban planning. They are grouped into palettes according to the industry focus.

5. DWG UNITS Command – maintain precision and consistency in various projects.

The DWG UNITS command allows you to convert drawings to other unit systems. Enhance your workflow and ensure drawings adhere to project requirements and industry standards.

I am proud that we continue to improve DraftSight’s functionality based on your feedback throughout the year. Take a peek at the enhancements we delivered earlier this year.

6. BOM Setting – customize your bill of materials for clearer documentation.

There’s a new BOM setting that enables you to select which properties to list and display in your bill of materials, part lists, and balloons.

7. DWG 2021 Support – include and edit mechanical entities created and saved as DWG files up to version 2021.

3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Mechanical will now recognize file formats up to 2021, so you can view, edit, and work with those file formats more effectively.

8. CATIA Drawings Import – work seamlessly with both CATIA and DraftSight.

Import CATIA model drawings from a local disk or the 3DEXPERIENCE platform in graphical representations while preserving the multi-sheet drawing views and names in DraftSight.

9. Stability and Performance – save time on large and complex drawings.

Decrease crash rates while you increase the speed of drawing view manipulation. In addition, you’ll save time when loading drawings that contain external reference files.

10. macOS Sonoma Support – use the latest macOS release on your Mac device.

If you use Mac products, we’ve got you covered. 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Premium supports the latest macOS Sonoma release.

That’s just a glimpse of some of the time-saving features you’ll find in DraftSight. Watch the video below to see these enhancements in action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wNiq4uAW7g&t=6s
