Boost your 2D Design Productivity with DraftSight Professional

DraftSight® Professional is a powerful 2D design and drafting solution that lets you create, edit, view and markup any kind of 2D drawing. It includes productivity tools, an API, and a familiar user interface that makes it easy to transition from other comparable CAD applications.

So, what are these productivity tools we are talking about? Well, just check out the list below:

  • Drawing Compare
  • Dimensioning with Widgets
  • Insert Centerlines
  • Batch Printing
  • Import DGN Files
  • Toolbox
  • PDF Underlay
  • G-Code Generator
  • Curved Text
  • DraftSight APIs and API Updates
  • Macro Recordings
  • Upgrades.

We’ll break them down one by one and briefly explain each productivity tool. and as we have written about most of these features previously, you can click on the links below for more information.

Drawing Compare graphically compare entities between two drawing documents. Basically, if you have two drawings that look similar names and you’re not sure which is the correct file, Drawing Compare will highlight the differences between the two allowing you to decide which one to use.

Dimensioning with Widgets allows you to Quickly place dimensions with widgets for automatic alignment and spacing. Using this feature will not only save you time when placing dimensions on drawings, it will help keep your drawing looking neat and tidy.

Insert Centerlines will allow you to effortlessly create a centerline that divides the distance equally between two selected segments.

Batch Printing allows the user to select and print files or folders of files at once without having to open each drawing. Select the files you want to print and click Start.  It’s as simple as that.

Import DGN Files DWG is not the only drawing file format out there, so DraftSight allows you to Directly import and convert the DGN file format into a DraftSight project for direct editing.

Toolbox is a standards-based mechanical symbol library and mechanical annotation add-on created to insert standard hardware; generate holes; create a Bill of Material and callouts for holes; and add balloons, welding symbols and surface finish symbols.

PDF Underlay allows you to attach pages of a PDF document to a drawing with the fast AttachPDF command in much the same way you would attach an Xref.

G-Code Generator in DraftSight Professional painlessly create the G-Code for the machining of the part with automated machine tools.

Curved Text Place allows you to place text along an arc to better control the text direction and location.

DraftSight APIs and API Updates If you have automated, customized or integrated your current DWG-based CAD system through LISP, you’ll love these APIs that let you customize and automate DraftSight.

Macro Recordings are the quickest and easiest way to start programming with the DraftSight API, which contains the DraftSight API calls that correspond to the actions performed interactively in DraftSight.

Upgrades DraftSight offer convenient annual product upgrades, new releases and service packs.

That’s just a brief rundown of some of the Productivity Tools that come as standard in DraftSight Professional 2018.  Don’t forget to click on the links above for more information!

The first time I used CAD, it was on a DOS PC with an 8088 processor, 640K of memory and a Hercules Mono Graphics Card... That, well that was a long long time ago. I switched to DraftSight the day it was released and haven't looked back!
